Terms

Terms and conditions

The terms for using this website, our guides, our client portal and our connection to HMRC. Last updated 18/10/2026.

About these terms

These terms apply when you use this website, buy or download one of our guides, or use our online services, including the client portal at portal.bookkeepingpartner.co.uk and the software we use to read information from HMRC on our clients' behalf.

If you are a client, the bookkeeping, payroll, VAT and accounts work we do for you is governed by your engagement letter. Where your engagement letter and these terms differ, your engagement letter applies.

Who we are

This website and our online services are run by BOOKKEEPING PARTNER LIMITED, a bookkeeping practice registered with the Institute of Certified Bookkeepers (ICB). We are a company registered in England and Wales, company number 10761607, with our registered office at Churchill Court, 3 Manor Royal, Crawley, England, RH10 9LU. You can contact us at info@bookkeepingpartner.co.uk.

Information on this website

Our articles and guides give general information about UK tax and bookkeeping as it stood when they were written. They are not advice for your circumstances, and tax rules change. Before acting on anything you read here, speak to us or another qualified adviser. We do not accept responsibility for decisions made only on the general information on this website.

Guides you download or buy

  • Guides are for your own use and the use of your business. Please do not copy, resell or share them publicly.
  • Prices are in pounds sterling and include any VAT due. Payment is taken by Stripe when you order, and the guide is emailed to you straight away.
  • Because a guide is digital content sent to you as soon as you buy it, you agree when you order that it is supplied straight away, and you lose the 14-day right to cancel under the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013 once it has been sent.
  • If a guide does not arrive, or the file is faulty, email us and we will send it again or refund you.

The client portal

  • The portal is for our clients and the people they authorise. We give you access, and we can remove it when our engagement ends or if the portal is misused.
  • Keep your sign-in details to yourself and tell us straight away if you think someone else has used them.
  • The deadlines and amounts in the portal come from HMRC, Companies House and our own records. They are there to help you plan; the records held by HMRC and Companies House are the official ones.
  • We aim to keep the portal available at all times, but it may be unavailable for maintenance or for reasons outside our control.

Our connection to HMRC

With your authorisation as our client, our software connects to HMRC to read your VAT return periods, the amounts you owe and have paid, and your Making Tax Digital for Income Tax filing dates. We only read this information; the connection does not submit returns or make payments. We use it only to provide the services in your engagement letter, as our privacy policy explains.

You can withdraw our authorisation at any time in your HMRC online account, or by telling us. When you do, we stop reading your information from HMRC.

Our liability

Nothing in these terms limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot be limited by law. For our clients, the liability terms in the engagement letter apply to our services. Otherwise, we are not liable for any loss arising from the use of this website or its general information, or for any loss we could not reasonably have foreseen.

Other websites

Links to other websites, such as GOV.UK, are there for your information. We are not responsible for their content.

Changes and the law that applies

We may update these terms, and will show the date of the latest version at the top of this page. These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales deal with any dispute. If you are a consumer living elsewhere in the UK, you can also bring a claim in your local courts.

Questions about these terms are always welcome: get in touch.
